NP and Aasap
Well, i always thought it was coming...our so-called middle class political party finally lost the patience with only media outlet that can be called a baloch media outlet.

Aasap is a urdu-language newspaper, published from Quetta and Turbat. It is the only newspaper which actually is of the baloch, for the baloch, and by the baloch. Without any government support, rather under constant watch of agencies, this newspaper has struggled to be the voice of Baloch. No, i am not saying that it is the best thing out there. It has its drawbacks. Some think that it is biased towards BNP-Mengal. This brings us to the events that happened yesterday in turbat. Why will NP accepts any good words towards any other Baloch party??

So, yesterday, a few thugs of BSO-Assef went and offloaded copies of aasap from street news hawkers. Check this, this assef guy has a faction of BSO under his own name. His faction also operates as the student wing of NP. Aasap has written about it here.

Is there no way that these thugs can be reined in by their masters (Dr. this, and dr. that)? Why do they even exist??? what do we need a bso-ASSEF for?

UPDATE: 3rd August 2005

Daily Intekhab, the other great baloch newspaper, (which sometimes publishes half-page Ads for PAKISTAN NAVY), has put forth a statement from BSO-ASSEF decrying yellow journalism.

UPDATE: 5th august 2005

So, there is more to the story. Some people don't think that it is just a simple skirmish between a newspaper and its opponents. A Baloch commentator highlighted the issue as "Aasap Vs Baloch Kids'. WOW. I wonder if he would have said the same if those kids actually didn't belong to NP, a party that he adores.

Malek Towghi, a somewhat eccentric and controversial Baloch intellectual and poet, calls it a case of BNP-Mengal Vs NP-Hayee. In saying this, he has deliberately called Aasap a mouthpiece of BNP-Mengal. Newspapers are not supposed to take sides, or have opinions?? Ever heard of a newspaper with no bias?? The same guy who has been citing all Aasap articles, praising Aasap in his other emails decides not to be on the side of Aasap when some thugs try to intimdate it. Aasap is a mouthpeice, if of any party, of BSO-United. Just see how many times the name of Allah Nizar is in every edition of Aaasap.

Malek Thowghi, advises us;, "Please, don't take side in this new Hayy-Akhtar controversy". I tell you, " Please do". Be on at least one side. Doesn't matter which one. If we are silent now that BSO-Assef has attacked a baloch newspaper, we are giving a license to everybody who doesn't like what gets reported about them to do the same.

Newspapers get attacked everywhere. Here is our first case. This is no conspiracy of BNP Mengal VS NP-Hayee. Lets not call it one.

UPDATE: 9th August 2005

It seems that higher-ups of NP decided to hush up the issue, and sent an apology letter ( Daily Jang's report) to Journalists associations of Balochistan. In response, Aasap took back its references against the thugs. BUT WAIT, this isn't what Intekhab thinks how it went. By the way, Intekhab was the only newspaper in Balochistan which didn't boycott the BSO-Assef Press releases during the last few days.

Resurrection!!
I am hoping to revive this blog, which has been dead for over two months now. Those of you, who thought i might have become collateral damage in the war in Balochistan, i would like to tell you, that i am alive and well, just a little depressed the way things are in Balochistan. I remain a keyboard warrior. I still do not have the courage to leave my comfortable life, and fight for my homeland. I am a coward.

Balochistan, which happens to be the focus of this blog, is still under occupation. My Baloch elders are still bickering among themselves. My sold-out political parties are still making the noises, and doing the rounds. My rocketeers and crack-bombers are still lurking behind the walls, and do throw their stuff at Quetta, Turbat, Kohlu, etc. occasionally .My sardars are still there, sulking. My Baloch students leadership is in jails, or is being hounded. My political parties are contemplating how to win that money-making Gawadar Nazim seat in the elections.

My nation sleeps. My nation is lost.

All for One???
The biggest news doing rounds in Baloch circles is Nawab Bugti's proposal of a single political platform. He wants his party (JWP), BNP (Mengal), Haq Tawar (Nawab marri) and NP (Dr. Hayee) to merge into one. This is being talked about everywhere, and our intellectuals are going full throttle calling it 'historical breakthrough', 'golden chance', and such.

But is it???

Why exactly do we need 'one' platform??? why are we so thrilled to repeat our mistakes?? remember NAP??? remember Mengal-Bugti alliance in 1997??? We know very well that we don't have political parties in balochistan. we have only political personalities.

What will this alliance achieve?? If Bugti wants to do non-parliamentary politics (sic!), he does not need any political platform.

Bugti is the most tainted Baloch politician among the three. He has killed more baloch than Paki Army ever have. I am not going to forgive him of all his sins, if he starts making some noises about Balochistan today.

and why will people of National Party will be in that alliance?? If Dr. Malek is in, ISI is in. what do we need people like sanaullah Zehri for? Putting all sheep in one 'waad' does not make them tigers.

I know i might get a lot of flak for saying this, but i feel this is another ploy from the granddad of Baloch politics, Mr.Bugti, to gain more power and prominence. No, i don't trust him.

50 days!!!
Its been 50 days since Dr.Imdad and friends were abducted by thugs of ISI. Though a columnist at daily Aasap suggests that they are reported to be still alive, nobody can be certain of the fact. It will be much easier for the agencies to kill and dispose them off, rather than present them in a court.

BSO (united) wants to do long marches, and sit-ins, and hunger strikes, and such. Why will the government be moved by such things?? Why willJam or nausherwani speak to an ISI major for their release? No chance of that happening!!

So what do we do?

I had written, alomst three weeks ago, to own up our owns. I would like that to happen. It is not only these student leaders, almost everyday we hear of other Baloch being arrested.

BUT...why are we so surprised if the government is acting like it is? We didn't know this will happen?? Were we under any illusion that the government was going to treat us nicely? This was bound to happen. So once again, what do we do???

I really can't think much of an solution. Lets just kill. If it is a war, lets give them a war. Not just one rocket, or one bomb blast a day!!! why aren't we killing government officials, military personnel, or even abaadkaars?? what are we waiting for??

America in Balochistan..once again
There was an article, about Balochistan, in The Economist titled "The tribes arise". I would have let it go like many other articles, but when i saw Aaasap and Intekhab publishing the exatcly same story, and saying things which i didn't belive i had read in that article, i had to visit the story one more time.

Read the article here.

According to PakTribune, Aasap, and Intekhab, the article has said that America and India are behind Balochistan's unrest.

I am not sure the article is saying so. I will copy the relevent parts here. You, the readers decide for yourself.

"The foreign hand

Unwittingly, outsiders have stoked the conflict. Thirsting for oil, America and India want to build a pipeline through the province, running south from the wells of Central Asia, or, in India's case, east from Iran. India's dynamic oil minister, Mani Shankar Aiyar—who also dreams of a pan-Asian gas grid—has suggested that the second pipeline could be completed by 2011. On reaching the coast, the Central Asian pipeline would disgorge into supertankers gathered off the emerging port at Gwadar. Chinese engineers are building the port with an initial loan from China of $200m. As its capacity increases, Gwadar will halve the distance between Xinjiang, the westernmost province of China, and its nearest accessible port—currently some 2,000 miles (3,000 km)."

"Conspiracy unlimited

Where the pipelines are concerned, the nationalists appear to be gripped by a common delusion that America secretly wants Baluchistan to secede from Pakistan, in order to secure the superpower a new source of oil. Indeed, the uniformity of the nationalists' expressed grievances and conspiracy theories, is striking. Traditionally, the government found it easy to use patronage to divide the warring tribes. Of late, however, a greater coherence has emerged. Last year, the four Baluchi nationalist parties, including three headed by sardars, formed an alliance to put their demands to the parliamentary commission."

These are two paras where the writer talks about any foreign involvement in Balochistan. It does not says that US/India are behind everything. But the NNI (a pakistani news agency) chose to project this article as the secret-revealing-article-from-the-west. And our Baloch newspapers (Aasap and Intekhab) 'unwittingly' went along with it.

Another Big Bang
Ok, so Balochistan is back as the usual, common pakistani problem. It had, for a short period of time, looked like the biggest, and gravest problem Pakistan was facing, but not any more. Now, it has gone back to what it was.... that the problem of a few bickering sardars and politicians who wants more pennies for their pockets.

Balochophiles are quiet. Balochophobes are indifferent.

we have lost this round.

and we need the next round to begin our way. Don't waste those rockets at Kohlu, when they can bring much better returns at other places. Let's kill jam Yousuf, or Shoaib Nausherwani, or bomb staff college, or kill corps commander Quetta..etc... Something that will shock the enemy. I believe a lot of people are expecting such a thing.

i agree that there might be some Baloch who speak as if common sense is an extinct quality, but here is a prime quality gibberish coming out from this punjabi guy.
Read and Enjoy:

==========
San,

Just like all non-punjabi's, you respond with jealousy. We punjabi's have heard your arguments over and over and over. It results from jealousy of being inferior in physique, war skills, stamina and strength of mind and body.

The fact is my good sir San, you and your kind dont have the guts to say what you have said or say behind a punabi's back TO OUR FACE.

Punjabi's are the backbone of Punjab, Pakistan and India. And YOU KNOW IT.

We find non punjabi's to be weak of mind, weak of body, inferior in the art of war, geekish and nerdy, who shake in their knees when facing us in physical battle. That's why whenever India and Pakistan have fought, it is Punjabi's who are at the forefront. AND YOU KNOW IT. That's why you're preparing a foolish response now with trembling body hahahaha.

You can respond, but I'm not going to read it. You are a fool.

BY THE WAY, nice slaps you recived by ABC and a certain Mr. AK
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA (go back to that topic to read what I'm talking about)

ABC pulled your trousers over your head with the explanation of the 1852 Mutiny, when you decided to say that hindu's dont eat beef for some odd reaons starting in the 50's and 60's.

A Punjabi would at least get his facts right!!!

Again, respond all you want, I dont want to get into a debate with an inferior mind, so I'm not coming back. A Punjabi is always doing something usefull you southie indian fool.

PUNJAB - TU KUSH RAHAAY GHA!!

Great!! isn't it??

My take on Daily Mashriq incident!!!
A few days back, the office of Daily Mashriq was attacked by few 'unknown' gunmen. They threatened the editor, smashed a few tables, and such. That got the climate hot there in Quetta. Rallies were organized. Attack on Freedom of Press was denounced..etc.

Now, the word is out that those 'unknown' guys might have been our guys..i.e. Bugtis. Since that day, Daily Aasap has published stories about how the foreigner (Punjabi, panahgir) media in Balochistan has been working against Baloch and balochistan.

I totally agree with that. Dailies Mashriq, Jang, and Nawa-e-Waqt are agents of the Pakistan in Balochistan. Never had any good thing to say about Baloch, but are full of things derogatory to Baloch.

BUT...they should be countered appropriately...not by thrashing their offices, but by answering them. I cannot agree with sending armed men to newspaper offices. We should fight the Paki army with our rockets, and the pakis writers with the pen.

OK, we know these newspapers are supported by Govt. money. What is stopping us from supporting our newspapers?? Right now, we rely on borrowed support from a few balochophile writers in Paki media (Najam sethi, Rashid Rahman, Haqqani..ect).

Shouldn't we have our own media outlets?? when will our leaders start thinking about this front in the war of our freedom?

A comment on paki politics
What is next for Musharraf??

Check the similarities between him, and Zia ul haq.

• Both are Army Generals.
• Both were made COAS after superseding other deserving Generals.
• Both imprisoned the persons who made them COAS.
• Both had their own muslim Leagues.
• Both had sham referendums.
• Both became darling of the west because of 'Afghanistan'.
• Both thought they were there because God wanted them there.
• Both hobnobbed with religious parties.
• Both usurped power, citing reasons: ‘bad politicians’ and ‘national security’.
• Both totally disrespected the constitution.
• Both did the cricket diplomacy thing.

Mr. Musharraf, please do not accept a gift of mango crates in your airplane.

Time to own Up our owns???
Most of us who care about things happening in Balochistan know that the leadership of BSO (United) has been kidnapped (not arrested) by the thugs of ISI in Karachi. It has been three weeks now, but they haven't been produced before any court. Like so many other young nationalist Baloch before them, nobody can guarantee whether they are alive today or their bodies have been dumped somewhere by those who know no mercy or compassion.

Dr. Imdad is one of the only few sincere people in Baloch politics, who have genuine ideas for our Balochistan.

Now, we know that no humane or political method can bring those kidnapped ones out of the grip of the rascals. A few demonstrations in Quetta, or Turbat isn't going to change the minds, nor legal deliberations in courts can produce any result. So, what should be done??

I would like BLA/ BLF to own these and others (Hassan Marri, Waryam Bugti, etc) arrested by Pakis, as our owns. There is no need to deny it any more. Once we accept that, normal guerrilla warfare tactics can be used for good effect.

One of the common one (used by all insurgencies) is counter-kidnapping. We kidnap a few army jawans, or civvies (I would love to see Shoaib Nusherwani bound and gagged on TV) and ask them to free ours in return.

I know, such an step means coming out in open. but i feel, it might be the right time to do that. BLA cannot remain a 'shadowy' organization for long.

How else are we going to tell our comrades that all isn't lost, once they get arrested?
